The Pediatric Weight Clinic is an outpatient service of the Center for Healthy Weight that provides comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation of children and adolescents with obesity. Their mission is to lead children and adolescents to improved weight control and overall better health and quality of life. The Weight Clinic team works with patients and families to develop a treatment program personalized to their situation and goals.

Following a complete evaluation by the clinic’s multidisciplinary team to understand the potential causes and complications of the patient’s condition, the treatment plan may include family behavioral counseling, visiting other specialist for related medical comorbidities (health problems that exist at the same time as overweight/obesity problem), a family-centered plan to achieve weight reduction goals, and/or bariatric surgery. The team may also recommend participation in the six-month Pediatric Weight Control Program. These classes are taught in a group setting and focus on lifestyle changes. New clinic patients must be referred by a primary care provider. The provider should fill out the Pediatric Weight Clinic Referral Form (PDF) and fax it to the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Referral Center at (650) 721-2884.
